Valentine Songs and Rhymes

Five Big Valentines
Five big valentines from the corner store,
I mailed one to a friend and then there were four.
Four big valentines, lovely ones to see,
I mailed one to Mommy and then there were three.
Three big valentines, red, shiny, and new,
I mailed one to Grammy and then there were two.
Two big valentines, as happy as can be,
I mailed one to Daddy, and he gave a kiss to me.

Special Friend
(Mary Had A Little Lamb)
You're a special friend of mine
Friend of mine
You're a special friend of mine
Be my Valentine.

I'm a Little Valentine
(I'm a Little Teapot)
I'm a little valenitne
Red and white
With ribbons and lace
I'm a beautiful sight
I can say, "I Love You"
On Valentine's Day
Just put me in an envelope
And give me away.

Ten Little Valentine's
One little, two little, three little valentines
Four little, five little, six little valentines
Seven little, eight little, nine little valentines
Ten little valentines in a row.

Letter A Activity
Confessions of a Homeschooler has this cute apple lacing activity along with an amazing Letter of the Week Curriculum to purchase. We will be doing many activities from her site as well.

Hear the letter A:
The Ants Go Marching
author unknown

The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stops to suck his thumb
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The ants go marching two by two, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching two by two, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching two by two,
The little one stops to tie his shoe
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The ants go marching three by three, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching three by three, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching three by three,
The little one stops to climb a tree
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The ants go marching four by four,
The little one stops to shut the door

The ants go marching five by five,
The little one stops to take a dive

The ants go marching six by six,
The little one stops to pick up sticks

The ants go marching seven by seven, hurrah, hurrah
The little one stops to pray to heaven

The ants go marching eight by eight, hurrah, hurrah
The little one stops to shut the gate

The ants go marching nine by nine, hurrah, hurrah
The little one stops to check the time

The ants go marching ten by ten, hurrah, hurrah
The little one stops to say "THE END"

I have been using KidsSoup for many of my printables for over a year now. You can find everything from the alphabet to on the farm activities. To make their site even better they have added
ABC Twiggles.

At ABC Twiggles the alphabet is brought to a new dimension- you can hear, feel, taste, see, and write the letters. I just print off what we will be learning for the day and use their lesson helpers to get us started.

The best part is you'll be able to win a year's subscription to this cool site, ABC Twiggles, in September!

I'm linking this post to 1+1+1.

Easter Songs and crafts

The girls made these easy "Hosanna" branches to use in church on Palm Sunday, but we also use them as Easter Egg holders.  Just use a sheet of green construction paper, fringe it with scissors, wrap the paper around a toilet paper roll, and secure with tape for a "Hosanna" branch.

Add an Easter Egg for an egg holder... we also like to have races around the house with this one. If the egg falls out, you have to go back to the front door and start again.

I can't believe Easter is just 2 weeks away. I discovered this site on Friday and it's really great. Delicious Ambiguity has a wonderful Easter song book to download here.

You can also find some other ideas to go with this bunny book here at Ramblings of a Crazy Woman.

Busy Bug Day

The Insect Song
(sung to the tune of: Wheels on the Bus)

The bees in the hive go buzz, buzz, buzz
Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz
The bees in the hive go buzz, buzz, buzz
All through the town.

Then:
-The butterflies in the flowers go flit, flit, flit
-The ants in the grass go march, march, march
-The fireflies in the night go blink, blink, blink
-The caterpillar in the field goes creep, creep, creep

We made "ants on a log" to eat with celery, peanut butter, and raisins.

Here is an easy paper plate bumbled bee that we made with a plate, yellow and black paint, and freezer paper for the wings.

These hand print butterflies were also a big hit. We used a pop stick, a pipe cleaner, and construction paper for tracing hands.

5 Hungry Ants Song

5 Hungry Ants Marching in a line
Came upon a picnic where they could all dine.
They marched into the salad,
They marched into the cake,
They marched into the pepper...
Uh Oh, that was a mistake!
Ahhchoo
Then:
Count down to 1

We used the letter of the week to learn (A for ant, B for bug, and C for caterpillar) from Confessions of a Homeschooler here .
Also be sure to check out KidsSoup for fun bug activities here and Kids Craft Weekly here.

We have so many more bug activities coming this week, the girls and I can't wait to show you!
