Little One Books Giveaway- Hot Air Balloons

We love "Hot Air: The (Mostly) True Story of the First Hot-Air Balloon Ride" from Little One Books. Today we are working on a lapbook to go along with the story. We will be posting pictures and crafts from our hot air balloon adventure tomorrow.

Little One Books if kindly offering one of my trusty readers a $25 gift certificate to their online store.

Our Homeschool Room

Well after two weeks of school I totally reorganized the room. It flows much better now!
I should show you now because it probably will never be this clean again!
This is our book nook with a CD player for books on tape and music.
I hang a thick ribbon to the wall and use clothes pins to hold our letter-of-the-week and art projects.
This is our morning board: Calendar,  Clock,  Make the date,  Days in School,  Months and Seasons,  Prayer,  Color of the week,  the middle (left open) will be for our poem of the month.  I will be adding Weather, and Phases of the Moon to our daily activities.
I just revamped our workbox system using these 5 drawer bins.
I keep our curriculum, printer, and my school supplies on this shelf. I found many useful morning board printables at Homeschool Creations, Confessions of a Homeschooler, and Mama Jenn- Thanks for your kindness.  Happy Homeschooling!

stART-Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Author: Judi Barrett
Illustrator: Ron Barrett
It never rained just rain, instead it rained things like soup, juice, and meatballs. This fun book helped us to discuss community helpers, weather, and the food pyramid. We also made this spaghetti and meatballs craft to go along with the story.

Circle Ideas

Olive's art class read the book Round Is A Pancake, by Joan Baranski at Co-op last week. The class did all sorts of fun things with items shaped like circles.
The group used coffee cans, toilet paper rolls, lids, cups, foam, and different colored paint to make circle collages. Everyone was different, here is what Olive's looked like.
This book is a good one to add to your collection. We also went around the house and counted everything shaped like a circle, For more cirlce and shape hunting ideas check out

FIAR-The Duchess Bakes A Cake

The Duchess Bakes A Cake by Virginia Kahl is a funny, creative and rhythmical book that we read with our Five in A Row Homeschool Co-op. There are a ton of activities you can do with this book. We talked about the feudal system, not a length, but based it more on kings, queens, and their helpers. The girls learned about leavens in baking and how it's important to follow a recipe. We baked a cake and learned about color mixing. They also learned about a family cote of arms and the importance of their symbols.

We read this book around Valentine's Day and made these cute little Valentine exchange boxes to complete our Co-op.

I can read!

It's a happy day here at our house! Olive just read the 4th Bob Book all by herself. We had started with the first set, but lost interest after "Mat Sat." We then started fresh with Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons. We were all very excited when she pulled the Bob Books out and started reading us the story...I think she even surprised herself!

You can find both reading items on Amazon.
