Jem's Butterfly Cake
Jem turned 4 and we celebrated at the pool with 6 families. She wanted a butterfly birthday with a butterfly cake! She is such a smart, curious, and energetic little girl.
The cake was easy to make using two circle cake pans.
Directions:
1 circle cake pan for base.
1 circle cake pan for butterfly: cut this circle in half, place curved halves together, and cut small triangles on the flat side to make wings.
Jem's little sister is due in just 2 weeks, we can't wait!

Seussical Fun!
Here are some activities that we did last year to celebrate Dr. Suess.
We've been having a good time celebrating the birthday of Dr. Suess by reading a ton of his books, making a hat, fishing for letters, color foot stamping, and green egg fun.

I found some great ideas from Suessville, it's really a wonderful site! Click here
We also subscribe to a site called Kidssoup that has some fun ideas too. Click here.
We are in the process of making this Cat In the Hat mask. All you need is a paper plate and construction paper.
Olive loves to rhyme words so in honor of Dr. Suess we started to make rhyming word list.
Train Plane
Box Fox
Cat Hat
Fish Dish
Cake Rake
Book Hook
Car Star
I hope you have fun this week...his official birthday is March 2nd. Please keep me posted on your Seussical fun!

Barbie Pajama Party
My baby turned 6 this week and we celebrated with a Barbie Pajama Party.
This cake was fun to make and decorate. I used a bake and fill pan, but you can also use a pyrex bowl to make the dress.
Since it was a pajama party they woke up ready to have fun. They also woke up to sleet and a bit of snow flurries, which is so unusual in the South.
Each Barbie had their own special party seat made out of play-dough. We also painted nails, played pin the candle on the cupcake, ate yummy food, and ended with a Barbie movie. Happy 6th Birthday my dear Olive!

Airplane Cake
The girls wanted to make Daddy's cake into something special for his big day....we decided on an airplane. Happy Birthday to a wonderful Husband and Father!
After baking the cake, I froze it, which made it easier to cut out the airplane shape. I used a left over triangle piece for the top and my peanut butter buttercream frosting, his favorite!

Easy Sew Party Shirt.
I forgot to post this cute shirt that I surprised Jem with on her third birthday. I used scrap fabric and ironed on stitch-wich to the back of it to make the fabric stiffer. Then I cut out a number 3 and sewed it onto one of Jem's old shirts....that now looks like new. I added a little embellishment to the top and there you have it, a cute little party shirt!

Alligator Cake Sneak Peak!
Here is a quick look at Jem's very green gator cake for her 3rd birthday tomorrow. I think it turned out really cute for her alligator jungle themed party. I'll show more photos tomorrow.

Girl Scouts
In honor of Girl Scouts every where I wanted to say Happy Belated Birthday. Olive just joined a Daisy troop and is so excited to learn the Girl Scout promise. They made these adorable bracelets at their first meeting. Each colored bead represents a different Daisy trait.

Birthday Girl
The cake turned out cute and I wanted to share some photos. I always think that I'll just go out and buy a cake, but then the guilt hits and I end of making one. This year Olive wanted me to make one that looks like a castle, chocolate with princess icing. Note to self: it doesn't matter what it looks like, it just matters that mom made a cool cake.
Birthday girl is happy, not only did she have a great party, but Grammy and Pop-Pop surprised her with a trip to Disney. Just the three of them, lucky girl!
FYI...my girls will where costumes each and every day. We went through a period where it was a struggle to have them put on their "real" clothes, but my Buzz Lightyear reminds me that this stage will pass and to just enjoy it.

She's turning 5-Scavenger Hunt Clues
There is a ton of excitement around her this week as Olive is getting ready to celebrate her 5th birthday! I just have to say it, "I can't believe she's turning 5!" I am so proud of her...Olive is bright, witty, artistic, and a fabulous big sister.
This year Olive wanted to have a princess party (again), so we changed it up a bit with a princess scavenger hunt theme. These are my ideas, please let me know if you think of anything else.
--Princess Scavenger Hunt clues:
Red and shiny, delicious to eat,
I made Snow White, fall asleep.
Cinderella danced at the ball with fancy shoes,
go to where Olive keeps hers and find your next clue.
Sharp and tiny I may be,
they tried to keep Sleeping Beauty away from me.
Ariel thinks having legs is grand,
go help her find a place to get wet, with out any sand.
Belle loves to read good books and is smart as can be,
now go find your next clue on page 103.
Mulan is a warrior and fights for her land,
where can you find clothes that make you look like a man.
Tinker Bell flies as fast as can be,
just look for her magical dust on me.
After they have discovered all the clues, the fairy dust will lead them to a treasure chest with their prize- tiaras for the girls, and pirate swords for the boys.
